Description

• Appearance: Males are famous for their brilliant yellow coloration with bright blue markings on their faces and fins. Females are typically drab, often appearing silver or brown.
• Size: They are relatively small compared to other cichlids, typically growing to an average length of 4 to 5 inches (10–13 cm).
• Habitat: In the wild, they are found in sandy areas with scattered rocks, particularly around the Nkhomo Reef near Benga, Malawi.
• Diet: These fish are specialized bottom-feeders. They use sensitive pores on their heads to detect movement from invertebrates in the sand, which they then sift through their gills.
