Tank Setup & Water Parameters

• Tank Size: A minimum of 5 gallons (20L) for a single crayfish, though a 10 to 20-gallon tank is highly recommended for communities or pairs. 
• Temperature: 60°F to 75°F (15°C to 24°C) is the optimal range for longevity. 
• Water Hardness: Medium to high mineral content (gH 3–25, kH 6–12) is essential so they can absorb enough calcium to regenerate their exoskeletons.
• pH Level: Ideally neutral to slightly alkaline (6.5 to 8.0). 
• Substrate & Decor: Use sand or fine gravel. You must provide plenty of hiding spots using hollow ceramic tubes, driftwood, and dense vegetation (like Java moss). Crayfish are incredibly vulnerable right after shedding their shells and will hide until their new armor hardens.
