LEOPARD CORYDORAS

Aquarium Care & Requirements

  • Tank Size: Minimum 75 liters (20 gallons) to accommodate a proper schooling group.
  • Schooling Behavior: Must be kept in groups of at least 6 individuals; they become stressed, timid, and reclusive if kept alone.
  • Substrate: Strictly requires fine sand or smooth gravel to protect their delicate sensory barbels (whiskers) from wearing down or getting infected.
  • Water Parameters: Prefers a temperature range of 22°C to 26°C, a pH of 6.0 to 7.5, and soft to moderately hard water.
  • Diet: Omnivorous bottom-dwellers. Provide high-quality sinking pellets, wafer discs, and live or frozen foods like bloodworms and brine shrimp. They should not be relied upon solely as “cleaners” to eat leftover waste.

Description

The Leopard Corydoras (Corydoras leopardus)—often confused in the aquarium hobby with the Julii Cory (Corydoras julii) and the Three-lined Cory (Corydoras trilineatus)—is a peaceful, armored bottom-dwelling freshwater fish native to the Amazon River basin. Known for its striking leopard-like black spots and shimmering silver body, it is a highly popular option for community aquariums.
